During this session, we hope to provide straightforward information and answers to your most pressing questions on bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, parochial reports, audits, and many other parish financial management topics.
Members of the Diocesan Parish Audit Team and Paula Lapinski, Missioner for Finance & Administration, will be on hand to share advice on the following topics:
Manual of Business Affairs, Internal Control Questionnaire, Audit Workbook as recommended sources of information for parish financial management
Managing segregation of duties in small churches such things as two signers for checks, credit card control, the critical nature of “independent” reviews of checking and investment account activities and balance comparisons to 3rd party custodial reports, and vestry reporting. One size does not fit all.
Parochial reporting including the distinction of/definitions for Operating activities vs non-Operating activities and their relationship to Assessment and Acceptance calculations.
Payroll issues/concerns such as payroll systems and services, taxes, and associated complications.
Understanding donor restricted versus vestry restricted funds and the importance of parish have guidelines about fund restrictions, timely and accurate gift statements, and understanding the true financial picture when Operating Fund Reserves are available.
This session is intended to be a pilot test that we hope will lead to future sessions both online and in-person. Registration will be limited to 30 participants with preference given to members of Convocations I, II, and III (to see a Convocation listing by parish: click here). We hope to learn from this session and create additional future sessions for members from every Convocation.
