Sophie Kitch-Peck, one of the diocese’s deputies to the 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church, has
been appointed to the Task Force to Study Sexism in the Episcopal Church and Develop Anti-Sexism Training. This task force is an interim body, which helps carry out resolutions set forth by General Conventions between meetings.
“I am excited to be a part of the work of this group,” said Kitch-Peck, who is currently a junior at Mount Holyoke. “Women face oppression in every day life, in all sorts of places. The Church should not be a place where this oppression still weighs on them.”
Kitch-Peck served on the legislative committee for Social Justice and International Policy at the 79th General Convention. She was also an official endorser of resolution D036, which advocated for using more inclusive language in the next iteration of the Book of Common Prayer.
Kitch-Peck says she is looking forward to her work on this task force. “To get to be a part of the Episcopal Church’s move toward addressing instances of sexism in the Church and working to fight sexism within the Church is a great honor. I am really excited about helping the Episcopal Church to progress forward.”
