Steve Baker has been named the Canon to the Ordinary for Mission Resources & Chief Financial Officer for the Diocese of Bethlehem.

For the past year, Baker has been serving as Consulting Director of Mission Resources to support the work of Diocesan Council in the development of the strategic priorities of the diocese. In addition to his previous work, Baker will now also focus on strategic use of diocesan resources. This includes financial resources; physical resources, such as buildings and land; financial policies; and benefits.

“I am pleased that we were able to transition Steve into this new position,” said Bishop Kevin D. Nichols. “Steve has been working diligently with Diocesan Council and parishes around the diocese. He will continue to be a great help and support to us as we continue to build upon the momentum that is growing around the diocese.”

Before joining the Diocese of Bethlehem, Baker’s work focused on strategies at the intersection of finance and technology and spanned a wide range of organizations, from schools, to software companies, to global non-profits. A graduate of the US Naval Academy, Baker also served as an officer in the US Marine Corps for seven years.

“I’ve had the opportunity to visit many churches in the diocese and meet many of the grace-filled members of this body,” said Baker. “I believe through faith and cooperation, we will create a church of which we can be proud.”

Baker’s first day in the new position will be October 1.
